First, the amount of Chiropractic Care you utilize is always up to you. We hear this myth in our office from first time patients all the time. The truth is, yes for optimum health and wellness you should get adjusted regularly, but the amount of time you come in is a decision made by you and Dr. Stanbridge together. Many of our patients who stay consistent with their adjustments say that not only do they feel better and are relieved of pain, but they also sleep better, have more energy, and see a change in their overall health and well being.
There are three types of care, each ranging from a few visits, to months of maintance
1. Acute or Crisis Care (specific): This type of care is focused on a specific area or symptom (say low back pain or headaches), and correcting that area/symptom. This level may take a few visits to a few months to correct, depending on your specific condition, pain history, and other factors.
2. Reconstructive Care (restore): The main goal for this type of care is restore normal alignment of the spine. It could take months, and in certain cases years to restore a spine to proper alignment and health. The best analogy we can use for this type of situation is braces for teeth. In order for braces to be effective in straightening out your teeth and restore proper use to those teeth it takes years of them being on.
3. Maintenance Care (maintenance): The focus for this type of care is keeping and maintaining a healthy and well adjusted spine. Like we have to regularly get our teeth cleaned and get the oil changed in our car, we have to regularly get our spine checked to make sure it's in its best shape! At our office we recommend coming in once a month for a check up.
Like stated in the beginning of this post the amount of time you come into the Chiropractor is determined by you. However, if you wish to receive the full benefits that Chiropractic Care offers (which are many), take to Dr. Stanbridge, make a plan of attack, and stick with it. Your back will thank you!
